Independent

For most of United States history our government has been run by 2 parties, the Democrats, and the Republicans (and various other names of the same parties). A growing number of people (including myself) are starting to realize that this 2 party system is not serving the interest of the people in this government that is "by the people and for the people". The 2 party system serves only the 2 parties.

But the political landscape is changing, and evidence of this can be seen in the Connecticut race for Senator where Joesph Lieberman (an Independent) is 17 points ahead of the nearest challenger Ned Lamont (Democrat). A 17 point lead in political terms is a landslide. This is good news for those who think a revitalization of our 2-party political system is needed.

I agree whole-heartedly! Even the new potential democratic Presidential hopeful, Barack Obama, in a recent speech said our country needs to get past democrat vs republican and think "American."

Thought this sounded great, however, according to one internet source, he never failed to vote straight down the democratic party line. Of course, he has only had a two year tenure in the US Senate, but wouldn't you think that a man who speaks like this might have voted across party lines, at least once!

Anyway, I believe the two-party system is divisive and fuels anger and hate. Also, I think people vote based on single, self-serving issues and do not care about the candidates overall platform.

Oh well, as for me, I always vote for the candidate that is strong on preserving habitat for the "Eastern Spotted Marmot" regardless of his/her stance on other issues. (Iraq, Terrorism, Global warming, Nuke proliferation, Aids, Healthcare, National Debt, Starvation, etc)
