Elvis Was In The Building

Tonight was a good night. It was entertaining, and for the most part, the musical quality was up to par. Like last week, Taylor stole the show. There seems to be an entertainment/musical maturity about him that I really enjoy. Here's a run down of the show from tonight:

  • Jailhouse Rocks was another song written for Taylor Hicks. What a performer, and this song did more than just show off his glitzy entertainment, it also showcased a great vocal performance. It "rocked"
  • Taylor's second song really showed his musical prowess. He can sing, and sing well. In the Ghetto was the perfect song for him to sing tonight.

  • Chris didn't blow a gasket on his first tune Suspicious Minds. It sounded great, I'm just not sure the his rock fan base is going to buy it.
  • A Little Less Conversation was great. It showed some versatility in his voice that was previously hidden under his angst-ridden rock songs. Great choice.

  • Hound Dog was okay. All Shook Up was a disaster. Overall, it was over the top, and somewhat annoying.
  • Can't Help Falling In Love would have been my first choice for Katherine to sing, but after I heard her sing it I realized I had made a bad call. It just wasn't her night, which was to be expected. She can sing incredibly well, but tonight didn't showcase it.

  • If I Can Dream was okay. Don't like the vibrato on this one.
  • Trouble was awesome. The judges probably had it right with this one being his best performance.
It's hard to suspect who will go home at this point in the competition. But my educated guess, and not necessarily my choice, would be Elliott. We'll see tomorrow, until then vote on the tommybailey.com poll right now.

i really think taylor could win the whole deal!
you know, i agree with you babe that kat is a great singer,
and i hope that last night doesn't set her back too much.
she for sure had an off night!
i think elliott is sweet, but i fear tonight is his time to go.
at this point it's really just a matter of who forgets to call in and vote for their favorite.
i think that all 4 have a large fan base and at this point it's who can call in the most votes.
we will surely see!

I was not crazy about last night, because to me there is something strange about most of Elvis’s songs i.e. they do not sound right being song by someone else. I felt Katherine did the worst job out of all the singers. She is more popular than Elliott; so I think Elliott will get the boot. I always preferred Elliott’s voice quality over Katherine. I was okay with Taylor’s first song, but not the second. That song for me does not sound right unless it is being sung with a deep voice like Elvis. Taylor is not one of my favorites, but I will be surprised if he is not the next American Idol.

Now here’s something interesting. When I was voting, I found it easy (but not as easy as last week with Paris) to call my votes in for Chris. I had a much harder time calling them in for Elliott. I had to text message my votes for him.

Ok, Sorry If i offend anyone, but the OVER the TOP Love fest of Elliot by the three judges has got to Stop... If anything they have turned me against Elliot (who is not a bad singer, lacking in the performance angle) Elliot is not my style and I dont think he is great, but with paula acting like a lunatic everytime he sings (can anyone figure out what the crying was about and her bodily convulsions last night were ridiculous) and Simon and Randy acting like he was the best performer since Elvis himself.... I am to the point that I dont want to like him, if only to counterbalance the judges extremism.... Sorry but honestly I hope he goes tonight for that reason alone...although I do admit that Kat had a hard time last night....
My faves, Chris and Taylor, I would buy either one of their CDs and/or go see them in concert.... Kal-el OUT!
